A Veritable Monster Smut Turducken

So I was doing some nerdy keyword research and stuff, and stumbled across this most amazing review of Alien Seed.  The rest of the reviews in this series are pretty fun, too.  Recommended reading for everyone who likes their monster erotica.  Besides, I think that “It’s a veritable monster smut turducken, all set out and ready for your holiday feasting.” is the one of the most creatively flattering things anyone has said about my writing.

I’d love to make a raunchy joke about a cock and one of those chicks with the ducklips, but it’s just not coming, and I’m still missing the part where there’s also a turkey in the mix.  And a holiday feast.  That would be a an erotic adventure for the ages.

Coming out of hibernation

Hey everyone.  It’s been a while.  It’s been a long, cold winter, but today it’s like t-shirt weather (being an exceptionally balmy 42 degrees) and I think it’s about time for me to come out of the slumpy hibernation I’ve been in.  There have been some big shifts for me during the fall and winter, namely moving from a part-time position plus freelancing to a demanding full-time position, so that’s played a role in derailing my writing.

Anyhow, it’s time for me to get back in the saddle and write you guys some more sexy stories.  I’ve been alluding to some new projects for a while, so I’ll be working to finish those and get them up for sale.  And this time around, I’ll be announcing my new releases in my newsletter, so if you haven’t already, please sign up!

And more website work…

Been writing a lot lately, but unfortunately for the both of us, it’s code and not luscious monster sexytime (except don’t worry, I’m actually fairly close to done on one of my in-progress stories ).  The code, however, is for my website.  It was half-baked for a while, but now it’s really coming together.  I’m always exploring ways to make your viewing experience better and to make it easier to find and learn about my books, so it’s been a fun experience (yeah.. I’m kind of a nerd and love web coding and research and stuff…).

The Literary Darknet: It’s a Secret to Everybody

So I came across an article on Digital Book World that plugged some content analyzing software and spoke of some sort of “Literary Darknet’ in independent publishing.  Have you heard of this “Literary Darknet?”  Because I sure haven’t.  I sell and market my erotic books by regular old “Lightnet” means, like Amazon KDP and this lovely little white-hat website of mine.

“Literary Darknet” is far too melodramatic of a term to describe what it is we erotica authors do and the type of stuff that we produce.  It implies that we’re doing everything covertly and that our stuff is “invisible” because it has “no reliable meta-data” or reviews.  I… what?  Everyone loves a conspiracy theory, I guess.

I’d like to see these article writers do some actual research into the erotica market before trying to solve a problem that doesn’t really exist or make a point when everything that supports it is bad journalism or lacking research.  As an erotica author in the know about all the crap that went down, I can tell you that the writer of the aforementioned article and creator of the content analyzing software, Aaron Stanton, is lacking in his research.  He’s drawing conclusions from sorely incomplete data, making bad observations (“no reliable meta-data” my ass), and making incorrect assumptions about how the online retailers actually handle erotic content.  Might be a good idea to not base your entire sales pitch on incorrect assumptions.

My New (Half-Baked) Website!

Hey everyone check it out!  A brand new theme for my site!   Much more fitting than my last one, in my humble opinion.  I mean, of course it fits better – I made it myself.

Thing is, it’s a premature launch.  Very premature, actually, which is why I’m calling it half-baked.  So why on earth am I launching a half-baked WordPress theme instead of a proper fully baked one?

Well, as you might have heard, there’s some scary stuff happening in the world of erotica right now, all thanks to some whiny jerk on Twitter and what is frankly a very creepy UK-based ‘tech blog’ that specializes in gossip and muckraking and whose owner specializes in bullying, blackmailing, and misogyny.  Unfortunately, the knee-jerk reaction to this “journalism” has been swift and far-reaching, with British retailer WHSmith shutting down its entire website, Kobo pulling all self-published titles (including mine), and Amazon removing countless erotica titles from its eBook store (including a couple of mine).  Yeah, it’s bad.

The frustrating part is that most of the erotica titles featured in these sensationalist exposés, which are actually quite extreme and disturbing, are the obvious work of black hat internet marketers.  But that doesn’t matter.  We’re all getting thrown in with the black hat riffraff anyway because that means more page views and controversy for a couple of “journalists” who seem to get off on negative attention and a certain sleazy British tabloid that picked up on the story.

ANYWAYS, enough about that crap.  What does that have to do with the new site?  Well, even though Amazon is pulling books, most of them are simply being reverted to draft so that authors can revise the “offending” elements and then put them back up for sale – they just don’t want it to be “shocking” to anyone who might accidentally stumble across it.  That means on Amazon, I’ll be using tamer descriptions without those deliciously detailed warning messages.  So, I need a way to go full monty with my blurbs, warnings, and excerpts.  That’s where this site comes in.

Over the next few days, I”ll be listing my catalog here so that you may read juicy excerpts and full descriptions of the happenings inside.  Each book listing will link to its page on the various eBook retailers for purchasing convenience, will be sortable by genre, and eventually, will be sortable by red-hot keywords.

Guess what? I’m starting a newsletter!

Yup, I’m finally getting the ball rolling on setting up a mailing list and newsletter!  And it shall be called The Letter X:

The Letter X Newsletter

X for Xavier, that is.  This lovely newsletter will contain plenty of early announcements, excerpts, freebies, and steamy exclusive content.  And probably more.

I’ll be taking care of the mailing list signup and other goodies tomorrow.  Stay tuned!
